Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony for the 2011 Arafura Games will be held on Saturday 7th May 2011 at TIO Stadium, Marrara.

In a spectacular show Darwin star Jess Mauboy, legendary Australian band Icehouse and other big name acts will share the stage with thousands of Territory children for a night filled with glamour and music.

In 2009 the Opening Ceremony - held on the evening of Saturday, 9 May 2009 - was a spectacular start to the Arafura Games week of sporting festivities. The ceremony encompassed the traditions of the Games, celebrating the friendship between sporting neighbours and embracing the multi-cultural nature of the city of Darwin. The program included a parade of athletes, formal welcomes and oaths, the lighting of the flame, an array of entertainment and a spell-binding fireworks display. A crowd of approximately 8.000 spectators attended the event.

Closing Ceremony

The Closing Ceremony for the 2011 Arafura Games will be held on Saturday 14th May 2011. It will be a celebration to mark the end of a busy week and highlight some of the sporting achievements. The party style atmosphere provides a chance for athletes, team managers and volunteers to mix and have fun!
