Traditional Sepak Takraw balls are made from rattan
‘Sepak’ is the Malay word for ‘kick’. ‘Takraw’ is the Thai word for the hand-woven ball originally used to play the game
The top of the net is 1.52m in height
The Server is called the Tekong – who is thrown the ball from his team mate. The Tekong must kick the ball over the net to start play
Players keep the rattan ball off the ground using their feet, knees, chest and head only
The match is played with two teams, each consisting of three players on the court
Sepak Takraw has been a part of every Arafura Games except for the first
Sepak Takraw developed in Southeast Asian and is sometimes known as ‘kick volleyball’ as it is played over a net similar to volleyball but competitors use their feet!

Sepak Takraw Rules and Regulations

The Arafura Games Sepak Takraw tournament will be run according to the current international standard rules as approved by the International Sepak Takraw Federation (ISTAF). All equipment used must conform to the official specifications of ISTAF.
