Squash General Information

Competition Dates: 9 - 13 May

Competition Details:

The 2011 Arafura Games Squash competition maintains is involvement in every Games since 1991, and is sanctioned by Squash Australia. Targeting amateur players as well as those with PSA member rankings >250 and WISPA rankings >120, the competition is open age with athletes from the regional Asia and Pacific areas encouraged to participate.

Arafura Games medals can be won in Open Male and Female Divisions in both Individual and Team events. The Male and Female Individual events shall consist of a main event and single plate event. Players will be guaranteed two (2) matches only. Team Officials will be required to supply information on individual players to assist in seeding the Individual events (see Rules and Regulations).

In the Men’s and Ladies Team events each team may have a maximum of five (5) players with only three (3) contesting each rubber. The event shall be conducted on a Round Robin, all play all, basis unless team entries exceed eight (8) teams. In the event where more than eight (8) teams nominate, teams will be placed into two (2) separate pools and competition conducted according to the official Rules and Regulations for Arafura Squash.

Eligibility/Entry Standards:

The Arafura Squash competition is an open age event. Those athletes with PSA and WISPA membership will be required to provide evidence of their membership and ranking.

Endorsement:

All teams must be endorsed by the relevant National Federation. Registration will not be finalised and accepted until endorsement is received. Endorsement information is provided at time of registration and should be gained by the appropriate organisation prior to registering any athletes to ensure there are no delays in the process.

Training Information:

Teams will be allocated training sessions prior to competition commencing. Training at the Games venues may not be possible during the week; however the Coordinator may be able to assist you to source suitable alternate training venues if necessary. Managers Meeting:

A Team Managers Meeting will be held prior to the commencement of competition. All Team Managers are expected to attend this meeting.

Medal Ceremony:

The Medal Ceremony and Presentation dinner will be conducted at the conclusion of all events. Further details will be provided closer to the event. It is expected that all medal winners will be in full team attire in order to receive their medals. The Organising Committee reserves the right to refuse an athlete to participation in a ceremony should they not be appropriately attired.
